COME LEARN AND PLAY AT GO GREEN! BK FESTIVAL

“Green exhibitors, fitness workshops, dance performances, eco-art, educational & scientific displays concerning our environment, a Greencycle Swap, volunteer park clean ups (hopefully), carefully curated eco-vendors and so much more!” What on this green Earth are we talking about? Town Square’s Go Green! BK Festival, now in its 12th year, is coming to McCarren Park on June 1st from 12-5 PM. Go Green is a day of summer fun and eco-celebrations you don’t want to miss.

Created in 2008, Go Green! BK Festival champions green initiatives from organizations, individuals, and companies with a presence in Brooklyn. Everything from vegan food to solar canopies to plastic-use reduction is celebrated with performances from local musicians, kids’ performers, games and activities for all ages, and beautiful eco-art. None of us are perfect at reducing, reusing, or recycling, but we can all improve. Go Green exhibitor Brooklyn Boulders (set to provide a fun obstacle course at the festival) says, “Going Green means to take actionable steps to reduce our impact in our communities and change our waste habits.” Every effort to greenify the earth and respect nature should be encouraged.

Susan Anderson, Executive Director of Town Square, explained why the event is open to featuring everyone from local friends’ groups to large corporations. “We are committed to creating a day where all green efforts, big and small, are recognized and supported. It’s an opportunity to learn about all the different ways that our neighbors and contemporaries are doing to decrease our carbon footprint, and talk to citizens about our shared world. It’s an inspiring day for anyone who comes!”

Another Go Green exhibitor, Solar One beautifully puts it, “Going Green is about engaging New Yorkers of all ages and walks of life with information and resources that empower them to play an active role in our transition to clean energy and environmental sustainability.” We’ll raise a biodegradable recycled-materials glass to that! Come learn and play in McCarren Park on Saturday, June 1st.
